Some chemicals in the lab are hygroscopic and will react with moisture and water from humidity. Laboratory samples may need to be protected from contamination by environmental moisture or humidity.

  • Common and traditional methods for moisture protections in a lab are desiccators made with heavy glass. These types of desiccators contain silica desiccant to absorb moisture.
