Formula E to Celebrate Historic 150th Race in Mexico City

The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship will mark a historic milestone at its upcoming event in Mexico City on Saturday, January 10, 2026—the second round of Season 12 and the series’ landmark 150th race.

Following an electrifying season opener in São Paulo, Formula E heads to the passionate racing capital of Mexico City for high-speed action on the iconic Hermanos Rodríguez Circuit. This weekend not only kicks off the 2026 calendar but also celebrates over a decade of all-electric racing since the championship’s debut in Beijing in 2014.

This will be Formula E’s 10th visit to Mexico City since its first race there in Season 2. The event has crowned seven different winners, with the most recent three champions going on to secure the Drivers’ World Championship in their respective seasons.

Among them is Jake Dennis of Andretti Formula E, who triumphed in Mexico City in 2023 to become the first GEN3-era World Champion. Dennis currently leads the Season 12 standings after claiming pole position and victory in São Paulo last month, earning a full 25 points.

Drivers Look Ahead to Mexico City

Jake Dennis (Andretti Formula E):
“Starting the season with a win in São Paulo was incredible, but our focus has fully shifted to Mexico City. I know the track well and have great memories there—but every Formula E race brings unique challenges. We’ve shown strong pace, and our goal is to deliver a clean weekend and keep building momentum.”

Oliver Rowland (Nissan Formula E Team):
“I can’t wait to race in Mexico City again—the atmosphere is always electric. Winning here in 2025 was one of the highlights of my career, and the crowd’s energy was unforgettable. With the chicane removed this year, it’ll be interesting to see how that affects overtaking opportunities. We scored 18 points in São Paulo, which is a solid start, but we’re aiming to improve in Mexico. Given that the last three winners here went on to claim the title, I’m determined to replicate my success from Season 11.”

Return to the Hermanos Rodríguez Circuit

Since its Formula E debut in 2016, the Hermanos Rodríguez Circuit—named after legendary Mexican racing brothers Ricardo and Pedro Rodríguez—has become one of the championship’s most enduring venues. Only Germany and the United States have hosted more races over Formula E’s 12-year history.

Currently, Pascal Wehrlein (TAG Heuer Porsche) and Lucas di Grassi (ABT CUPRA) are the only drivers to have won in Mexico City more than once. With the past three winners all becoming World Champions, the 2026 race promises fierce competition and high stakes.

The 2.605-kilometer circuit features 16 corners and retains its familiar layout, with the signature Attack Mode activation zone situated in the heart of the Foro Sol stadium—a venue that regularly draws tens of thousands of passionate fans cheering on the world’s top 20 electric racers.

Empowering the Next Generation

During race week, up to 120 young women will participate in the FIA Girls on Track initiative. Through workshops, interactive games, career talks, and pit-lane tours, the program aims to inspire and empower the next generation of talent in motorsport and engineering.

A Global Legacy Reaching Its 150th Race

Since its inception, Formula E has raced through the hearts of major global cities—including Paris, Rome, Berlin, London, Moscow, Miami, Cape Town, New York, Seoul, Jeddah, Marrakesh, and Monaco—bringing sustainable racing to millions. Notably, Formula E played a pivotal role in lifting Switzerland’s 60-year ban on circuit racing, reinstating motorsport in the country for the first time since the 1955 Le Mans disaster.

As it approaches its 150th race, Formula E reflects on a dynamic legacy:

  • 10 different World Champions across 11 seasons (only Jean-Éric Vergne has won back-to-back titles)
  • 24 unique race winners
  • 38 drivers who have stood on the podium
  • 32 pole-sitters
  • 89 drivers who have competed in the championship
