Casio Unveils New MR-G Watch in Traditional Japanese Hanada-iro (Indigo Blue)

Casio Computer Co., Ltd. today announced the launch of a new timepiece in its MR-G collection—the flagship line of the shock-resistant G-SHOCK brand. The new model, MRG-B2100D, features a three-dimensionally textured checkered dial inspired by the functional aesthetics of traditional Japanese joinery known as Kigumi*, and is finished in a dignified shade of blue called Hanada-iro (indigo blue).

*Kigumi is a centuries-old Japanese woodworking technique used in traditional architecture to interlock wooden components without nails or metal fasteners—celebrated for its structural integrity and refined craftsmanship.

Guided by its brand philosophy—“Infuse everyday life with layers of joy through the surprising power on your wrist”—Casio continues to pioneer unprecedented value. As the pinnacle of the G-SHOCK lineup, the MR-G series masterfully unites Japanese artisanal heritage with cutting-edge technology, delivering meticulous design alongside G-SHOCK’s legendary shock resistance to evoke both wonder and delight.

The MRG-B2100D’s (3D checkered) dial draws direct inspiration from Kigumi joinery, now rendered in the serene Hanada-iro. This deep indigo hue evokes the mystical silhouette of Japan’s National Treasure— the five-storied pagoda in Yamagata Prefecture (where MR-G watches are crafted)—as it emerges through morning mist. The dial’s color subtly shifts with changes in light and viewing angle, mirroring the ethereal transition from dawn to early morning.

Intricate geometric patterns composed of undulating ridges and micro-perforations adorn the dial, meticulously recreating the interlocking elegance of Kigumi. These tiny apertures not only enhance visual depth but also allow ambient light—whether sunlight or indoor illumination—to penetrate the dial, ensuring optimal charging efficiency for the watch’s solar-powered system.

The case and bezel are assembled from 27 individual components, each hand-polished to perfection before precision assembly. This harmonious fusion of time-honored Japanese craftsmanship and advanced engineering exemplifies the MR-G series’ commitment to true sophistication and uncompromising excellence.
